| More moved out of Florida than here from other states, census data show
| For the first time since the 1940s, more people moved out of Florida last year than new residents moved in from other states as the economic slump halted years of explosive population growth in the Sunshine State. Florida reported a net loss of 9,286 domestic residents between July 2007 and July 2008, according to U.S. Census Bureau data released this month. But that loss was offset by a net gain of 77,427 new international residents, mainly Latin American immigrants.

| Florida banks balk at caring for vacant homes
| Banking lobbyists have quietly crafted a measure in the Florida Legislature that would prevent cities and counties from forcing the banks that hold mortgages on properties in foreclosure to maintain those properties until they have actually acquired the title to the land. That foreclosure process can take six months or more.

| Florida House approves open pricing for home insurers
| The House this morning passed a bill that would allow insurance companies to charge whatever premiums it wants on homeowners insurance policies, a move proponents said would attract companies to the state and let the marketplace decide appropriate rates. The policies allowed by the proposal would not be subject to extra fees all insurance consumers are now liable for to pay back state-run Citizens Property Insurance deficits. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Bill Proctor, was overwhelmingly passed 105-13.

| EPA Is Choking Democracy
| One of the most important events of our lifetimes may have just transpired. A federal agency has decided that it has the power to regulate everything, including the air you breathe. According to the EPA, greenhouse gases include carbon dioxide — the gas you exhale — as well as methane, nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons, and sulfur hexafluoride. It is literally impossible to imagine a significant economic or human activity that does not involve the production of one of these gases. Don’t think just of the gas and electricity bills. Cow flatulence is a serious concern of the EPA’s already.

| German experts warn that US banking euphoria Is premature
| Good news from six US banks has raised hopes that an end to the financial crisis might be in sight. But German experts think the euphoria is wishful thinking. As they see it, things are going to get worse soon -- and banks will be forced to make billions more in write-downs.
